The artist examines how gestures associated with self-care, particularly those derived from the cosmetic and skincare industries, are entangled with broader biopolitical ideologies of protection, security, and self-regulation, echoing the logics of militarisation that permeate an increasingly tense, war-driven global landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the centre of the project lies the notion of the \u201cclean look\u201d: an aesthetic regime defined by smoothness, uniformity, and the systematic erasure of imperfection. Popularised through fashion and wellness cultures, it promotes an ideal of (unattainable) perfectionism: an apparently effortless, re-created naturalness produced through intense self-discipline. This form of performative wellness can be genealogically traced back to eugenic and scientific racism, as well as to the interiorised narcissistic psycho-power in which the contemporary individual is no longer conscious of their own subjection. Cleanliness thus functions as a form of aesthetic anaesthesia: nothing protrudes, nothing disrupts. Davila Rubio reads this aesthetic regime not as neutral, but as a disciplinary language that aligns the notion of beauty with conservative and normative ideals. Interiorised practices of body care become inseparable from social legitimacy and self-confidence, forming an invisible armour \u2014one disproportionately designed for female-identifying bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tension is articulated through a body of new works developed during the artist\u2019s first year at the Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN) at HGK\u2013FHNW in Basel. In the series&nbsp;<em>Daily Protection<\/em>, chainmail-like sculptures evoke both historical armour and contemporary garments \u2014metallic second skins designed to envelop the body. Small metal amulets, shaped as stars or keys, puncture this defensive logic, introducing fragility, belief, and vulnerability. In<em>&nbsp;Clean Look<\/em>, head-like sculptures \u2014produced in epoxy resin through silicone moulds derived from cosmetic face masks\u2014 appear sealed and expressionless. Encircled by aluminium belts tightened with ceramic buckles, these forms suggest containment and regulation: facial skin becomes a surface to be disciplined rather than a mirror of inner emotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Material research (here involving resin, metal, and ceramics) is central to Davila Rubio\u2019s practice. Matter becomes the site where poetics take form, enabling an investigation into zones of ambiguity: between the human and the non-human, the organic and the synthetic, the masculine and the feminine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accompanying sound piece&nbsp;<em><strong>Prepare, Protect, Disappear \u2727*:\u00b7\uff9f<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;extends this ambiguity: a text is read aloud, oscillating between instructions for applying a facial mask or cream and those for painting camouflage onto the body. En 2021 completou a s\u00faa formaci\u00f3n como investigadora predoutoral no Departamento de Filosof\u00eda do Boston College (Boston, EE. UU.) grazas a unha bolsa Fulbright-Xunta de Galicia. Adem\u00e1is, en 2025 foi becada polo Centro de Arte Fundaci\u00f3n Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Jove para cursar o M\u00e1ster en Belas Artes no Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN) da HGK-FHNW University de Basilea (CH) durante os cursos 2025\u20132027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde unha mirada cr\u00edtica e situada, o seu traballo prop\u00f3n unha ruptura coas xerarqu\u00edas tradicionais entre o humano e o non humano, expo\u00f1endo formas de convivencia e coidado nas que o corpo e a s\u00faa contorna comparten unha mesma l\u00f3xica de transformaci\u00f3n mutua. A trav\u00e9s da s\u00faa obra, a artista explora como a pr\u00e1ctica escult\u00f3rica pode converterse nunha forma de estar no mundo, e como o corpo \u00e9 capaz de activar v\u00ednculos afectivos e materiais cando se entrelaza con elementos da paisaxe, as\u00ed coma outros de vida coti\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nos seus traballos, o corpo deixa pegadas, pero tam\u00e9n \u00e9 modelado polo que toca e conv\u00e9rtese nunha superficie viva que acolle e se deixa afectar.
